The Scarlet Pimpernel: A Review

scarlet pimpernel

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy is a cheeky, fun-loving novel about a man who dedicates his life to saving the French nobility during the French Revolution.

Masquerading as a dandy, upper-class, spoiled Englishman, Sir Percy Blakeney is driving Citizen Chauvelin absolutely bonkers by aiding the French aristocracy in their escape from madame la guillotine [the guillotine, not an actual lady]. Leaving nothing but a note signed with a Scarlet Pimpernel blossom behind after his escapades, Blakeney is being pursued by the unknowing Chauvelin. The story has a few cutesie twists here and there and Sir Percy Blakeney turns out to be a foppish hero!

SO MUCH FUN TO READ. It’s cute and really fast paced. I was not bored for a moment of this novel. I actually wished for it to be longer, as I was truly enjoying the character of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Blakeney is so dashing and cunning!
