Bridge to Terabithia: A Review

Bridge_to_TerabithiaI have never watched the movie related to this book, so I had no idea what to expect when reading Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. This is a children’s novel and I found it quite similar to Where the Red Fern Grows, great riding, but incredibly sad story.

Jesse is a young boy with no friends and a resentment towards the world, until he meets Leslie, his new tomboy neighbor. Leslie opens Jesse up and takes him on adventures to the woods outside their house, which they’ve dubbed Terabithia. The novel mostly follows their adventures until an accident causes Leslie’s untimely death and Jesse is forced to accept his own mortality.

I was expecting something closer to the Chronicles of Narnia, so I was shocked when the story progressed that it was not a fantasy novel. A nice read, but so horribly depressing.
