Books you should be asking Santa for:

Hopefully you have all been very good boys and girls this year and Santa [or a particularly kind friend] has a few books waiting for you under the Christmas tree! As per the usual, I am sure to receive a bevy of lovely used books [my favorite!] this Christmas… and here are some books that you should’ve already read, or should be asking Santa to deliver on the 25th of this month:

i am malala#1. I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai

If you are unfamiliar with her story, Malala was an outspoken young woman of 15 yrs whose views on Pakistani women and education threatened the Taliban so much that they shot her. The attempted murder was unsuccessful and Malala continues to spread her word on the importance of education and feminism. She is such an inspiration to me and I really CANNOT WAIT to pick up this autobiography. YOU GO GIRL! Did I really just type that?!

mad about the boy#2. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy by Helen Fielding

Stay calm, Bridget Jones fans, and try not to hyperventilate. There is a third novel in the Bridget Jones saga. Bridget is an every-woman navigating through her life as a no-longer-singleton. She’s witty and charming and decidedly driven. She is just one of those characters you love right off the bat! I’m hoping this one is under the tree for some light New Years reading!

cuckoos calling#3. The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith (pen name of J.K. Rowling)

Another Rowling original being pitched up to fans everywhere… and this time it’s a murder mystery. Rowling made a valiant effort to keep this novel under her pseudonym until a rogue publisher blabbed about it, but I’m sorta glad he did… because now lovers of the Harry Potter franchise and her previous novel A Casual Vacancy can get their Rowling Fix with this beauty. Let’s just hope J.K. Rowling never stops writing!

giverquart1#4. The Giver Quartet boxed set (The Giver, Gathering Blue, The Messenger, and Son) by Lois Lowry

WOW. If you’ve never read The Giver, or have never read the SEQUELS to The Giver, you really need to pick up this boxed set for Christmas… because you are MISSING OUT!! I just finished reading the series myself and let me tell you, you will not be disappointed. The writing is simple, but the story is a spectacular take on society.

the bride#5. The Bride Wore Size 12 by Meg Cabot

Not only is Meg Cabot from my hometown, but she has been one of my favorite authors since high school! Her writing is familiar and fun and makes me want to keep reading and her Heather Wells’ mystery series sticks to that! This is the latest novel where we get to crime solve with Heather and I really can’t wait to pick this novel up from the library. Heather is an overweight, intelligent, and funny ex-pop star who is trying to get her degree while working full time in a dorm residence hall. She’s just trying to make it through another year without any students dying in her NYU residence hall!

One response to “Books you should be asking Santa for:

  1. i’m so mad about Helen Fielding killing off Darcy that I just can’t…

I have Cuckoo’s Calling at home now from the library. Wasn’t a huge fan of Casual Vacancy; hoping this one is much better.

Oh, Lois Lowry. Those books are beautiful. All of them 🙂

Just finished the Bride, too. If there is ever a Heather Wells movie, I WANT TO BE HER!!
