The View from Saturday: A Review

view from saturdayThe View from Saturday is a GREAT Young Adult novel by E.L. Konigsburg! What a great novel for an elementary school classroom! I found that the major themes of acceptance, diversity, and friendship were seamless and well-executed!

It’s the story of Mrs. Olinski’s 6th grade Academic bowl team, “The Souls” and how she discovered the four seemingly disconnected students that would balance each other’s intelligence out perfectly. A well-rounded and randomly grouped team of 4 children, “the souls” find themselves drawn to one another for unforeseen reasons. Their friendship, despite their obvious differences, inspires their teacher, parents, grandparents, and classmates.

A sweet story, very short, but what a fun read! Adorable characters and a great children’s novel!
